Athene Ascent Annuity Complaints [Updated February 2020]

What Additional Information is Available on the Athene Ascent Annuity?

Because fixed indexed annuities are regulated as insurance products – and not as securities – these products provide few of the typical disclosures that you will normally find with equity investments. Likewise, these types of annuities are not included in various FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) regulations like stocks, mutual funds, and even variable annuities are. You can, however, help yourself to better understand these types of annuities by reading over their disclosure statements and other “fine print” that may be included on the carriers’ website, and in their brochures (although often times, the fine print on the glossy brochures is “hidden” down at the bottom, and it is a very small font type). Regarding the Athene Ascent fixed index annuity, there is a fairly detailed disclosure that can be found online by going here. This disclosure will provide you with information on the product’s fixed and index strategies, as well as how (and how often) the returns are calculated, the actual index disclosures, and even some key terms that are important to know.

Friends, we have had annuities with Athene for years, ever since we lived in Boston. Our contract numbers are 700308 and 705022. We are at present living in Istanbul, Turkey. We have been unable to get form 1099 to send to our tax preparer in Cambridge. MA. So our tax form has not been sent to the IRS.

Will you please help us? Send us an email address to write to or a telephone number we can call from Istanbul.

    Many thanks,

    Feroz Ahmad

I requested money from my Athene Annuity to repair an extremely damaged roof. I filled out all the paper work, contacted my financial advisor, contacted Athene by phone and waited. A check was sent promptly and just as promptly, cancelled, due to “ wrong amount sent”. I immediately called again and ask to please issue another check ASAP as it was imparitive that my roof be done. They were in no hurry to send me MY money and two weeks later I recieved my check , I kid you not, for the exact same amount that was cancelled . They need lessons in 1) whose money is this 2) customer service 3) and telling the truth. I will be talking with my financial advisor soon.

Hi and thank you for your comment. We are sorry to hear that you’re having such a hard time getting your money. Depending on how long you have owned the annuity, you should be able to access at least 10% of the contract’s value penalty-free (or possibly even all of your money, if you are no longer in the annuity’s surrender period). If the annuity is otherwise performing well for you, it likely makes sense to hold on to it (minus your withdrawal for your roof repairs). However, if the annuity is not performing the way you had anticipated, we would be happy to assist you with comparing it against some other options to determine the best course of action. Please feel free to reach out to us directly via phone (toll-free) at (888) 440-2468, or to send us an email at http://annuitygator.com/contact/ and set up a time to speak with one of our annuity experts. Best! Annuity Gator
