My sincere thanks and appreciation to Joshua Schlinsky for his patience and understanding as I made changes from my original request in purchasing an annuity. There was absolutely no rush by Josh for me to sign anything until we both knew exactly what I wanted to accomplish. He offered to send me his book, Wealth Compounded, so I would understand who I was putting my trust in. (I admit I was apprehensive in dealing with an Agent in Florida – several states from my residence in Missouri.) We talked on the phone several times. My initial plans drastically changed a few times as I mulled over my investments between our conversations. My final and most important decision was to opt out of my funds invested in the stock market by purchasing a Single Premium Deferred Fixed Annuity – no more worries about the stock market plummeting to 50%. Now my funds will grow with interest added each year, it will only decrease if I withdraw funds. The process was not totally hiccup free as my Stock Brokerage Company had requirements which caused me concern and I leaned heavily on Joshua during those times. I am very comfortable now with my final choice and my Agent, Joshua Schlinsky, who carried me through the entire process.

Rick Sparkman was a wonderful advisor. He thoroughly considered my goal -guaranteed income -and provided a number of different options that allowed me to understand the different sort of benefits that would accrue from the different classes of offerings (cd like return, guaranteed payout for life after deferral, payout with variability indexed). I was able to clarify what my real goals are and what I was willing to sacrifice (access to the sum deposited, inheritance) in order to achieve a guaranteed high payout for life for both my wife and me. Annuities are complicated and are inherently costly but they can achieve specific goals if you understand them. Some part of everyone’s portfolio needs to be immune to market fluctuation and an annuity can be part of that strategy. I was given an excellent education with weeks of meetings and I came to a conclusion that fits my needs. Even if you do not think annuities are for you (and I was one of those) speaking with Rick helped me understand their appropriate postioning within my plans.

Had my 401k invested in stocks but felt very uncomfortable with it and wanted to make a change. Found annuitugator onllime and called them. Was asked about my expectations and what I wanted from an annuity. At end of conversation the rep I was working with was going to do some research into what would fit my needs and agreed to another meeting the next week. At the next meeting there were several different plans to look at and the rep went through each one and explained the benefits of each one he had selected. I had contacted Annuity Gator to get a rating on an annuity product that I heard about from another financial company. Terry was completely familiar with that product along with another product to consider from the same underwriter. I had a limited knowledge about annuities and wasn’t sure if they were a good fit for my portfolio. I submitted an request to Annuity Gator for more information and was assigned to Barry Young. Over the course of several weeks and through several video conferences Barry exposed me to various companies and took the time to patiently explain pros and cons of each. He never tried to push one company over another but through talking and reading downloaded material I became comfortable with what would be a good fit for me. He also introduced me to Gradient Investments who handle the managed side for investing and between the two we came up with a workable plan for my portfolio that I could be comfortable with. Mr. Driggers’s strongest positive trait was his desire to please the client. He seemed very motivated to do that. He also seemed knowledgeable about the topic and the products available so he could offer good choices of products. Overall, I thought he did a very good job. I might attempt one constructive general comment that goes beyond Mr. Driggers. Personally, in my 74 years of life, I have never encountered an investment advisor, financial counselor, insurance salesperson et al. who listened to the client – except for one. They all talk a lot, often very amiably, but never really listened to me. This one individual who did listen sold insurance, and he was indeed unique. When he meant with us, the first thing he said was something like, “How are you doing? Tell me about yourself and your family. What are you thinking about? What are your needs and concerns? Why are you thinking about buying this product? And then he would listen and listen, taking a few notes, asking follow-up questions that, in retrospect were quite relevant to the business at hand. We ended up buying a large insurance policy from him, and remaining loyal to him until he retired. He apparently was quite successful as we received notices of the rewards and promotions he received. I am not a financial advisor. I don’t know much about it. But as a client, it makes sense to me that listening, asking appropriate questions, and trying to understand the clients needs, concerns, biases, feelings, and so on would be very important. Mr. Driggers did a fine job. If these comments are communicated to him, I hope he will not be offended but take them as an attempt at constructive ideas from a satisfied client.
